Economic Minister Mohamed Saeed has stated that the current government has registered a record number of investments so far, attributing the success to investment forums held in foreign countries. Responding to a no-confidence motion submitted to the People's Majlis by Kaafu Atoll constituency member Mauroof Zakir, Saeed said that 212 investments were registered from 2008 until the end of 2013, 406 investments were registered during the administration of former President Yameen, and 245 investments were registered during the previous Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) administration. He noted that from November 17, 2023, onwards, the government has registered 313 investments, setting a record. Saeed made these remarks while answering a question included in the no-confidence motion, which alleged that the government had held numerous investment forums but did not disclose any costs incurred. He did not provide details on the amount spent on investment forums, stating that he is very close to the media and that there would be no secrets in his ministry. Regarding the outcomes of the forums, Saeed said he does not know how many investments came to the country linked to specific forums, and that it is not the way such matters proceed.
