World ·
Education Minister Dr. Ismail Shafeeu has emphasized that teachers bear a profound national responsibility, acting as the primary architects of a skilled and knowledgeable future generation. In a message marking World Teachers' Day, the Minister urged the public to recognize the sacrifices educators make and to uphold the dignity of the profession with honor.
Dr. Shafeeu highlighted that the government, under President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, is actively implementing initiatives to increase the societal respect and recognition accorded to teachers. These efforts include providing modern professional training and creating safer, more positive school environments to safeguard the mental well-being of both educators and students.
Addressing the critical role of the community, the Minister called for parents and the wider public to take a more active role in supporting teachers. He described educators as the "second guardians" of students, noting that their influence extends beyond the classroom to the overall upbringing and moral development of the youth. Dr. Shafeeu urged parents to extend greater support than currently provided to ensure the profession receives its deserved honor.
Beyond societal support, the Minister challenged teachers to maintain high standards of competence and work ethic. He emphasized the necessity for educators to embrace professional development, stay current with evolving technology, and adapt their teaching methodologies to meet contemporary needs. By doing so, he noted, teachers can better instill a love of learning and prepare students to be responsible, well-mannered citizens.
Concluding his message, Dr. Shafeeu reaffirmed the Ministry of Education, Higher Education and Skills Development's commitment to advancing the sector. He expressed his hope for a future where the Maldives' education system continues to progress and where the standing of the teaching profession is permanently elevated and protected.
