The Minister of Education, Higher Education and Skills Development, Dr. Ismail Shafeeu, has described the development of skilled scholars as the most critical investment for the nation, asserting that human intellect is more valuable than gold and precious jewels.
Speaking at the graduation ceremony for the Maldives National University's (MNU) Faculty of Engineering Science and Technology and the College of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences, the Minister emphasized that the Maldives' future prosperity rests upon its ability to nurture courageous and knowledgeable citizens.
Minister Shafeeu noted that human resources provide a level of value that surpasses material wealth. He argued that the leadership and stability of the country depend on individuals who possess not only technical expertise but also faith and courage to lead the nation forward.
Reflecting on the academic journey of the graduates, the Minister framed the Maldives National University as a cornerstone of national investment. He suggested that the true essence of higher education transcends formal syllabi and textbooks, finding its real value in the dynamic interactions between students and their lecturers.
According to the Minister, the conversations held within the classroom are often more impactful than the lessons themselves, as they foster critical thinking and professional wisdom—skills essential for navigating the complexities of the modern workforce.
Closing his address, Minister Shafeeu issued a call to action for the new cohort of professionals. He urged the graduates to approach their careers with a deep sense of duty, leveraging their specialized expertise to serve the community and contribute tangibly to the country's overall progress.
The graduation marks a significant milestone for the students of engineering and ocean sciences, fields that are increasingly vital to the Maldives' environmental sustainability and infrastructural development.
