Education Minister Urges Schools to Prioritize Modern Resources and Social Values

Minister of Education, Higher Education and Skills Development, Dr. Ismail Shafeeu, has emphasized the need for the education system to equip students with the ability to use modern resources effectively in an ever-evolving global landscape. Speaking as the chief guest at the 75th anniversary celebrations of Hithadhoo School in Addu City, Dr. Shafeeu argued that the true measure of education extends beyond academic testing. He asserted that the primary goal of schooling is to develop knowledgeable, confident, and responsible individuals who can contribute meaningfully to society. During his address, the Minister highlighted that producing citizens who are valued by their communities is the most significant achievement a school can reach. He stressed that fostering compassion and empathy is a collective responsibility shared by educators, parents, and community leaders, urging students to cultivate deep respect for their teachers and fellow citizens. Reflecting on the legacy of Hithadhoo School, Dr. Shafeeu described the institution as a symbol of continuous progress. He noted that the school's alumni have historically played pivotal roles in national development, serving as "heroes" who have made lasting contributions to the Maldives. Addressing the school's future, the Minister announced that comprehensive plans for infrastructure development have been finalized. He confirmed that practical work on these projects will commence shortly, building upon the efforts of previous generations to modernize the facility. Hithadhoo School began its operations on April 17, 1951, starting with just over 200 students and a faculty brought in from across the archipelago. Over seven decades, it has evolved from a modest local school into a prominent institution known for producing outstanding graduates.
