Education Minister Urges Students to Uphold National Legacy for United Society

Education Minister Dr. Ismail Shafeeu has outlined the government's ambition to cultivate a patriotic and cohesive community, emphasizing the role of the youth in preserving Maldivian national identity. Speaking as the guest of honor at an Independence Day art and photography competition award ceremony, the Minister highlighted how creative expressions of history nurture national pride. The event, jointly organized by the Ministry of Arts, Culture and Heritage and the National Centre for the Arts, showcased student works commemorating the heroes of Maldives’ independence. Dr. Shafeeu asserted that reflecting on the sacrifices of ancestors is essential for building a society rooted in duty and reverence. He noted that recent government initiatives to honor public servants are part of a broader effort to revitalize the national spirit across the archipelago. Addressing the students directly, the Minister urged the next generation to commit themselves to the nation's honor. "Your ancestors brought this nation to where it is today through immense sacrifice and extraordinary courage," he stated, calling on students to persevere and remain loyal to ensure the country's dignity is passed down to future generations. Beyond celebrating history, the Minister issued a stern warning against derogatory remarks targeting national heroes. He called upon schools, parents, and the general public to protect the legacy of those who fought for the country's freedom.
