Elections Commission Allows Objections to Voters' List Ahead of Parliamentary Polls

Politics ·
The Elections Commission has announced it will allow objections to the voters' list for the upcoming parliamentary elections as part of preparations to ensure electoral integrity. Director Shahul Ismaeel explained that permitting these objections aims to provide accurate voter registers to polling centers, though he noted past instances where objections frequently arose after voting commenced. Shahul emphasized that the current voters' list has been meticulously compiled and verified but lacks mechanisms for updating residential changes. He clarified that once finalized and sent to voting centers, the Commission cannot legally alter the register. The voters' list announced includes 4,429 eligible voters, with objections accepted until 12:00 PM on the 24th of this month. The Commission encourages political parties to scrutinize the lists and raise valid concerns, reinforcing the importance of an accurate and trusted electoral process.
