Former Vice President Faisal Naseem, a candidate in the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) presidential primary, met with Maldivians living in Kochi, India, on Wednesday to discuss key concerns, particularly around healthcare and the Aasandha national health insurance scheme. During the meeting, Faisal visited homes of Maldivians in Kochi and listened to their grievances. Attendees, including individuals seeking medical treatment in Kochi, reported significant difficulties with Aasandha, including delays in approval for medical expenses and uncovered costs, even when approval was granted before departing Malé. They also highlighted challenges in obtaining dollars needed for treatment. In response, Faisal stated that healthcare and social security remain top priorities for any MDP government. He pledged to strengthen the system, streamline service delivery, and eliminate the hardships citizens currently face. He emphasized that his campaign is based on delivering real results, not false promises, and that governance should not rely on deception. Faisal also noted that past MDP governments focused on decentralization, business development, and quality education and health services.
