Faisal Nasheed urges government to protect sovereignty in Rasmalé project

In a statement issued in connection with Victory Day, former Vice President Faisal Nasheed called on the government not to allow any investment that could undermine the country’s independence and sovereignty.
Faisal Nasheed made these remarks regarding the Rasmalé project. He stated that even if an investment were to yield significant economic benefits, it would not be acceptable to give opportunities for actions that resemble encroachments on national independence against the wishes of the people.
“If investments are beneficial to the country, these matters must be disclosed clearly so that citizens can see them. There is a major fear that the results of what is done today may emerge tomorrow as contradictions,” Faisal said.
Faisal stated that the greatest lesson from the Victory Day incident is the degree of national love and spirit present in the hearts of Maldivians. He also stated that preventing this land from falling under foreign influence is the duty of every Maldivian.
“Making decisions based on our own resources is a right enjoyed by the people. The government must listen to the voices of the people and respect their concerns,” Faisal said.
Faisal further stated that the future path of the country must be paved in a way that creates opportunities for the upcoming young generation.
Today’s celebrated Victory Day marks 38 years since the nation achieved victory over the dangerous crisis it faced. In that dangerous attack, a total of 19 Maldivians, including eight military personnel and eleven ordinary citizens, lost their lives.
