Fathimath Ameeza Appointed Commissioner General of Taxation at MIRA

President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has appointed Fathimath Ameeza as the new Commissioner General of Taxation at the Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA). The appointment follows the official endorsement of the Maldivian Parliament, which confirmed her suitability for the leadership role. Ameeza assumes the position following the resignation of Hassan Zareer, who vacated the post after being appointed as the Minister of Finance and Public Enterprises. A seasoned professional with over 16 years of experience at MIRA, Ameeza demonstrated exceptional merit during the parliamentary selection process. She received a score of 92.44 percent from the relevant parliamentary committee, with members unanimously agreeing that she met all the rigorous requirements for the role. Prior to this appointment, Ameeza served as MIRA's Deputy Commissioner General. In that capacity, she was instrumental in reforming tax policy, enhancing institutional governance, and optimizing operational systems to increase state revenue collection across the organization. Her career at the authority is marked by a strong focus on data-driven results. While leading the Enforcement Division, she implemented evidence-based strategies and data analytics to recover unpaid tax and non-tax revenues, significantly strengthening the authority's overall fiscal oversight. A native of Gadhdhoo in Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll, Ameeza brings a strong academic background to the position. She holds a Master of Science in Accounting from the International Islamic University Malaysia and a Bachelor's degree in Applied Accounting from Oxford Brookes University.
