Fathimath Dhiyana Saeed Nominated as Ambassador to European Union and Belgium
World ·
President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has nominated former Attorney General Fathimath Dhiyana Saeed to serve as the Maldives' Ambassador to the European Union (EU) and Belgium.
The nomination was formally introduced today through a letter sent by the President to the People's Majlis, the Maldivian Parliament, seeking official approval for the appointment.
The nomination has been referred to the Parliament's Committee on Foreign Relations. The committee will review the appointment and provide its recommendation before the full parliament makes a final decision on whether to confirm her role.
Fathimath Dhiyana Saeed brings extensive high-level government experience to the nomination. She previously served as the Attorney General under the administration of former President Mohamed Nasheed and held the portfolio of Minister of Gender during the presidency of former President Dr Mohamed Waheed.
Most recently, before this nomination to the European Union, Saeed was appointed as Ambassador-at-Large in April of this year, marking her transition into the Foreign Service. Her appointment comes at a critical time as the Maldives continues to strengthen its diplomatic and economic ties with European partners.
