Fenaka Corporation Aims to Complete 48 Island Projects by Year-End
Politics ·
Fenaka Corporation Limited is accelerating efforts to complete a substantial portfolio of development projects across the Maldives by the end of this year. Managing Director Mohamed Afeef Hussain revealed that the state-owned utility provider is currently managing 48 projects spread across 35 islands, ranging from essential utility upgrades to public infrastructure.
Speaking with PSM News, Afeef disclosed that he inherited an organization with operational health at an "exceptionally low tier." He noted that preexisting instabilities within the corporate financial system created significant hurdles for nationwide development. In response, the corporation is conducting systemic evaluations to reform its corporate architecture and strengthen executive management.
While Fenaka's primary mandate is the supply of electricity, water, and sewerage services, it has taken on an extensive array of Public Sector Investment Program initiatives. These obligations include the construction of regional police posts, educational facilities, and hospital buildings. According to Afeef, work on six islands has already been completed, with another six progressing at an accelerated pace.
"We anticipate concluding the operational work on certain projects within the next three to four months," Afeef stated. He added that while some complex projects may require up to a year to finalize, the corporation is striving to complete the vast majority of its endeavors by December or January of next year.
The push toward completion comes despite persistent logistical obstacles. The corporation continues to struggle with procuring essential construction materials and recruiting qualified skilled personnel to work in the outer atolls. Despite these headwinds, Afeef emphasized that the company is pursuing every available avenue to fundamentally restore and retain public trust through the successful delivery of these critical services.
