Fenaka Corruption Case: Mariyam Dheenaa Found Guilty One Year After Ahmed Saeed's Sentence
Business ·
The Criminal Court has found Mariyam Dheenaa, the then Procurement Head of Fenaka Corporation, guilty in the major corruption case that took place while Ahmed Saeed was serving as the company's Managing Director.
The court reached the decision after the trial stages. About a year ago, Saeed was sentenced to four years in prison in the same case, but Dheenaa's part of the case had not been concluded at that time.
On Sunday, the Criminal Court decided that the charges against Dheenaa were proven, but no sentence has been handed down yet. The punishment will be decided at a later hearing.
The case concerns an agreement signed in 2018 between Fenaka and Blazon Ink. According to the case, money for the work was released illegally without Blazon Ink completing the work and without confirming that the work had been finished. The investigation also found that another agreement had been made before the work was completed.
When Saeed was previously sentenced in the case, Chief Judge of the Criminal Court Adam Mohamed said that corruption in state companies and the betrayal of public money had become common. He said that the lenient punishment given to people who commit such acts encourages corruption, and that the harshest punishment available under the law must be imposed.
In the case filed against then-senior officials of Fenaka for the misuse of official position, one year after Saeed was sentenced, the court has now also found Dheenaa guilty. A decision on the punishment to be given to her will be made very soon.
