Fenaka ex-procurement chief jailed 1 year 7 months in dhoani lease corruption case

The Criminal Court on Tuesday sentenced Mariyam Dina Saleh, former head of procurement at Fenaka Corporation Limited, to one year, seven months and 11 days in prison for misuse of official position.
The case involved the leasing of a dhoani in 2018 in violation of procedures while Dina served as Fenaka's procurement head. The vessel had been bought by a company with which she had close ties and was then leased to Fenaka.
Chief Judge Adam Mohamed ruled that the offence proven against Dina was a serious criminal offence. The court said the prison sentence could not be converted to a fine, and the state had objected to replacing the jail term with a fine. State prosecutors had sought one year and seven months' imprisonment.
Defence counsel had requested a non-custodial sentence, citing Dina's health conditions, including migraine, gastroenterology issues, an allergy to fish and asthma. However, Chief Judge Adam Mohamed said no medical documentation had been submitted showing that she could not be held in prison.
The court ordered Dina to serve one year, seven months and 11 days in prison. The former managing director of Fenaka, Ahmed Saeed Mohamed, was also found guilty in the same case and sentenced to four years in prison about a year ago.
