Final Segment of Thilamale Bridge Connecting Vilimalé and Kulhiufushi Completed

Local News ·
The final segment of the section between Vilimalé and Kulhiufushi of the Thilamale Bridge has been connected. Housing Minister Dr. Abdullah Muththolib announced the completion in a social media post last night, thanking the companies Afcons and AROP, the team at the Ministry of Housing, and the Government of India for its support. The bridge, which connects Malé, Vilimalé, Kulhiufushi, and Thilafushi, previously saw the Malé-to-Vilimalé section completed earlier in August. The remaining work is to connect the final section up to Thilafushi. Minister Muththolib noted that the project has faced delays, with the government now targeting completion next year. The $500 million (6.2 billion Rufiyaa) project includes $100 million (1.55 billion Rufiyaa) in Indian grant aid, with a loan from India's Exim Bank. Work is being carried out by India's Afcons company, with experts from Turkey, Germany, and Australia also involved.
