Finance Minister Moosa Zameer has dismissed allegations that the Maldives government is planning to hand over the Thilafushi commercial port to Dubai Ports World (DP World). Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony for the development of an airport in HA. Dhidhdhoo, Zameer clarified that while the government has received investment proposals, this does not mean it is acting on them. He emphasized that President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu is a knowledgeable leader who makes decisions in the best interest of the people. The allegations were first raised by former President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom, who claimed the government was proceeding with efforts to transfer port operations to DP World. Former President Mohamed Nasheed also expressed concerns but suggested the port could be handed to the private sector through a competitive bidding process. The first phase of the Thilafushi port development is expected to be completed next year, costing USD 60 million, with the full project spanning 10 years.
