Finance Minister Hassan Zareer to Present Proposed 2027 State Budget to Majlis Tomorrow

The proposed state budget for 2027 has been placed on the agenda for a special session of the People's Majlis scheduled for tomorrow. Speaker of the Majlis Abdurrahim Abdullah announced the special session while concluding today's proceedings, stating it would commence at 1:30 pm. Finance Minister Hassan Zareer is set to present the budget statement on behalf of the government. This marks the first budget he is submitting in his capacity as minister. Notably, the Ministry of Finance has not yet disclosed the total amount of the proposed budget for next year. According to the State Financial Affairs Act, the budget for the upcoming year must be submitted to the Majlis before the end of October each year. Therefore, the submission tomorrow is scheduled with only one day remaining before the legal deadline expires. For reference, the current year 2026 saw the Majlis approve the largest budget ever passed in the country's history, a record budget of MVR 64.2 billion.
