Fire Destroys Only Petrol Shed in Sh. Funaadhoo, Damages Nearby Buildings

Local News ·
A fire broke out at the only privately operated petrol shed in Sh. Funaadhoo, causing extensive damage to the facility and nearby structures. The petrol shed, known as "Fathmini," was completely destroyed, and the fire spread to adjacent buildings, including three warehouses and a house. According to Funaadhoo Council President Mohamed Aadhil Addadu, the fire could not be contained and damaged three warehouses and one house, though the fire in the house was extinguished. Council Vice President Adam Hussain confirmed that while some people sustained minor injuries, no one required hospital treatment. The firefighting efforts involved the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF), local residents, and a fire engine from the island's airport. The petrol shed was located near the harbor area, only about 60 feet from residential buildings. With the only petrol shed destroyed, the island of approximately 3,500 residents now faces a fuel shortage, and the council is consulting with the government on alternative fuel supply arrangements.
