Fire in Funaadhoo Petrol Shed Likely Caused by Electrical Short Circuit

Local News ·
The owner of the petrol shed in Funaadhoo has stated that the fire which broke out last Wednesday appears to have been caused by an electrical short circuit. The fire, which started at around 7 am in the island's only petrol shed, spread and damaged a residential house, three garages, and a motorcycle. Mohammed Vishal, who runs the 'Fathimini' petrol shed, told 'Mahaaru' that police have so far indicated the fire was caused by an electrical short circuit in the distribution board. He noted that while the full extent of the damage is not yet certain, significant damage has occurred as the entire shed collapsed. Fuel was last supplied to the shed last week, and the fire occurred on the day fuel was scheduled to be refilled. Temporary accommodation and catering have been arranged for 11 people living in the damaged house, and medical treatment has been provided to 18 people with various health issues. A Major Crime Investigation team from the police has visited Funaadhoo to investigate the incident.
