Politics ·
President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has announced the construction of the Maldives' first dedicated bowling arena in Malé Industrial Village. The project is a key part of the government's push to expand domestic sports and recreational infrastructure. During a meeting with youth, the President confirmed the project is fully funded and ready to proceed. The land, located opposite the MNDF Fire and Rescue building, has been formally transferred to the Ministry of Sports, Fitness and Recreation. Construction is scheduled to begin in the second quarter of 2026. The two-storey facility, as shown in architectural plans, will feature a 10-lane bowling alley. It will also include an electronic gaming arcade, a café, and private event spaces, designed to function as a social hub. The government estimates the arena will be completed within 540 days. Alongside the bowling arena, the administration plans to develop several complementary recreational facilities in the Greater Malé Area. These include an arcade centre, a children's play park, and a complex for futsal and netball. President Muizzu stated these spaces are engineered to host a diverse range of community and social activities. With site control and budget secured, preparatory work is expected to start this year.
