First Lady Attends Closing Ceremony of Food Safety Training Programme in Malé

Politics ·
First Lady Sajidha Mohamed attended the closing ceremony of the “Ufakaara” training programme in Malé City, marking the completion of a specialized course designed to elevate food safety and hygiene standards across the Maldives. During the ceremony held at the Ministry of Health, Family and Welfare conference hall, 19 participants were awarded certificates for successfully completing the rigorous training. The First Lady also recognized the efforts of 17 facilitators whose expertise was instrumental in delivering the programme's curriculum. The Ufakaara initiative focuses on building the capacity of individuals directly involved in the preparation and sale of food. By equipping food handlers with modern hygiene practices, the programme aims to reduce foodborne illnesses and ensure a safer culinary environment for both residents and tourists. Launched in 2017 by the Maldives Food and Drug Authority, the programme has expanded its reach far beyond the capital. To ensure nationwide compliance with health standards, training sessions have been conducted in Lhaviyani and Meemu Atolls, as well as in Kulhudhuffushi in Haa Dhaalu Atoll, Velidhoo in Noonu Atoll, Fuvahmulah City, and the atolls of Laamu and Faafu. The event was also attended by the Minister of Health, Family and Welfare, Geela Ali, alongside several senior ministry officials, underscoring the government's commitment to public health and food security. As the Maldives continues to grow its tourism and local food industries, the Ufakaara programme remains a critical pillar in maintaining the high sanitary standards required for sustainable economic development and community wellbeing.
