First Lady Calls for Compassionate Society to Ensure Children's Safety and Rights

Establishing a safe environment for children requires the cultivation of a fundamentally compassionate society, First Lady Sajidha Mohamed announced during the inauguration of a formal consultation on children’s rights. The initiative, titled 'Mashvaraa on Child Rights,' serves as a specialized symposium for stakeholders to deliberate on the challenges facing Maldivian youth. According to the Ministry of Health, Family and Welfare, the platform is designed to explore concrete strategies for defending fundamental rights and fostering collaborative action across the community. Speaking at the event, which was organized to coincide with National Children’s Day, First Lady Sajidha emphasized that while the government has spearheaded significant initiatives, the ultimate responsibility for child welfare rests with the public. She described children as the nation's fundamental hope, noting that their upbringing directly dictates the future prosperity of the entire society. She explained that compassionate childcare must extend beyond providing basic necessities. Instead, it must include a robust financial and moral foundation essential for molding young people into dependable, responsible citizens. "This responsibility does not rest solely upon legislation and institutions," the First Lady stated, observing that true security is only possible with an attentive and empathetic public. She argued that the most effective protection for children stems from the principles upheld and the actions demonstrated within homes, schools, and the broader community. First Lady Sajidha concluded by highlighting the importance of interpersonal connection, stating that the manner in which adults communicate with youth, their willingness to genuinely listen, and the personal examples set by elders are of paramount importance in ensuring a protected childhood.
