First Lady Joins Debate on Career Advancement for Maldivian Nurses

The First Lady attended a high-level debate marking International Nurses Day 2026, focusing on the professional growth and future of the nursing sector in the Maldives. Held at the Maldives National University (MNU) Faculty of Health Sciences, the event brought together healthcare practitioners and academics to evaluate the current state of the profession. The debate, centered on whether the Maldivian nursing field offers sufficient opportunities for advancement, was co-hosted by the Community Nurse Volunteers and the Maldives Oncology Nurse Association. Upon her arrival, the First Lady was received by Mariyam Niyan, President of Community Nurse Volunteers, and Aminath Zeeniya, President of the Maldives Oncology Nurse Association. Throughout the session, participants highlighted existing pathways for career development and engaged in critical dialogue regarding the need to broaden the sector. The discussions focused on creating new specialized roles and enhancing the structural opportunities available for nurses to ascend within the healthcare system. The event saw a significant turnout of registered nurses and academic experts, reflecting the importance of the nursing workforce in the nation's health infrastructure.
