First Lady Urges Maldivian Youth to Lead Global Innovation Through Technology
World ·
First Lady Sajidha Mohamed has called on the youth of the Maldives to transition from being mere consumers of technology to becoming global innovators. Speaking as the keynote speaker at the opening ceremony of the Theveli International Conference, the First Lady emphasized that digital advancement is bridging the geographical gaps of the island nation and providing a platform for local ideas to reach an international stage.
Addressing the conference under the theme “Transformative Innovation in the 21st Century: Science, Technology, and Society,” the First Lady highlighted how artificial intelligence, biotechnology, and digital tools have revolutionized learning and social interaction. She noted that these advancements create opportunities that were unimaginable just a decade ago, potentially transforming the Maldives' economy, healthcare, and public services.
According to First Lady Sajidha, the true measure of innovation is its capacity to serve the people and enhance the quality of daily life. She argued that for a nation separated by vast stretches of ocean, technology is a critical tool for inclusivity, ensuring that knowledge and economic opportunities are accessible to residents across all atolls, regardless of their location.
“Technology should ensure that no one is left behind,” the First Lady stated, stressing that as the nation enters this new era, innovation must remain inclusive, ethical, and centered on human values. She cautioned that while the potential for change is immense, it must be guided by a commitment to building a better, more equitable society.
Concluding her address, the First Lady urged young Maldivians to embrace complex challenges and conduct the research necessary to solve them. She encouraged the next generation to view themselves as architects of the future who can introduce new business models and scientific solutions, challenging them to be a generation that is unafraid to seek the best possible answers to the obstacles facing their country.
