First Lady Urges Voluntary Blood Donation to Save Lives on World Blood Donor Day
World ·
First Lady Sajidha Mohamed has called for increased public awareness and regular voluntary blood donations, emphasizing that a simple act of kindness can profoundly change a recipient's life.
Speaking in observance of World Blood Donor Day on June 14, the First Lady highlighted the critical role that selfless donors play in the healthcare system. She noted that for patients requiring transfusions and their families, the availability of blood often represents the thin line between fear and hope during their most challenging moments.
In a social media post commemorating the international occasion, First Lady Sajidha underscored that saving lives does not always require monumental effort or grand gestures. Instead, she described blood donation as a fundamental act of humanity and compassion that provides essential support to the critically ill.
"On this #WorldBloodDonorDay, we honour the kindness and generosity of blood donors whose selfless acts bring hope to patients and families during some of the most difficult moments of their lives," she wrote.
The First Lady further urged the community to embrace a shared responsibility toward voluntary donation. By encouraging a culture of regular contributions, the Maldives can better ensure a stable supply of life-saving blood for those in urgent need.
World Blood Donor Day is observed annually to thank voluntary blood donors and raise awareness of the need for safe blood and blood products. The global initiative seeks to move toward 100% voluntary blood donation to ensure the safety and sustainability of national blood supplies.
