Fisheries Minister Addresses Challenges Faced by Fishermen

Economy ·
Fisheries Minister Ahmed Shiyam has acknowledged the unresolved issues faced by fishermen over the past two years. On December 10, during Fishermen’s Day, 49 fishermen gathered in Kooddoo to protest the unmet promises made by the government. The fishermen demanded the fulfillment of commitments and fair treatment regarding their profession. Minister Shiyam stated that the biggest concern for fishermen is the lack of payment for their work and the rising costs of fishing equipment. He assured that the government is working on solutions, including better pricing mechanisms and improved facilities for fish processing. The government is also set to introduce measures to stabilize fishermen’s income and address the broader challenges in the fishing industry.
