Fivah residents await new mosque as no completion date is set
Local News ·
No date has been set for the completion of the new mosque being built in Fivah, Thaa Atoll, after the demolition of the island's Friday Mosque, with residents hoping the work will be finished as soon as possible.
The Qibla direction for the new mosque, to be built with the budget of the Islamic Ministry, was marked on October 18 this year at the designated site. The project has been handed over to a company, and both the island residents and the council have requested that the work be completed as quickly as possible.
The Friday Mosque in Fivah, which was built by the residents, is approximately 40 years old. It was the island council that decided to build a new mosque at that location after the demolition of the old mosque.
Accordingly, the council cleared the land, covered the necessary expenses for painting the site, and prepared the bid documents (BOQ).
While the council had decided to construct the mosque and carried out many tasks, the Islamic Ministry had promised the residents of the island that it would build a mosque at the ministry's expense. Officials from the Islamic Ministry visited on October 18 this year and marked the Qibla at the site designated for the mosque.
Although the project has been handed over to a company, the council does not know on what date it will be completed. The island residents and the council have requested the ministry to complete the work as quickly as possible.
