Flooding Hits H. Nolhivaram as Heavy Rain Triggers Emergency Response

Local News ·
The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has confirmed that heavy rain across the country caused flooding in H. Nolhivaram, with water entering three houses. According to the NDMA, the heavy downpour began at 11:30 today, leading to flooding within the island. Nolhivaram Council President Ahmed Amir stated that no reports of water entering other places have been received so far. However, sandbagging work will continue in some parts of the island from 4:00 PM. Amir noted that although light rain is falling now, very heavy rain fell between 11:30 AM and 12:30 PM. Two pumps are being used to drain water from flooded roads, and efforts are underway to remove standing water from the island. Last month, similar heavy rain caused widespread flooding in Nolhivaram, resulting in power cuts and the relocation of residents from some houses to safer areas. The Meteorological Service has issued a red alert for heavy rain in the northern islands until 7:00 PM tonight.
