Flynas Resumes Saudi Arabia Flights to Boost Maldives Middle East Tourism
World ·
Saudi Arabian low-cost carrier Flynas has officially resumed its scheduled flight services to the Maldives, marking a strategic step in strengthening aviation links between the two nations. The airline's inaugural return flight touched down at Velana International Airport (VIA) on June 20.
According to the Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL), the airline will operate three weekly flights connecting King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh directly to the Maldives. MACL highlighted that the restoration of this route provides a critical opportunity to enhance air connectivity and facilitate easier travel for both tourists and business travelers.
To celebrate the resumption of service, the arriving Flynas aircraft was honored with a traditional water salute upon landing. Arriving passengers were greeted with a vibrant Maldivian welcome, featuring the rhythmic sounds of Boduberu cultural performances and commemorative gifts to mark the occasion.
Industry experts and MACL officials believe the return of Flynas will provide a significant boost to tourist arrivals from the Middle East. Saudi Arabia remains a pivotal market for the Maldivian tourism industry, and the increased flight frequency is expected to drive higher demand and accessibility for Saudi travelers seeking the archipelago's luxury resorts and natural beauty.
This development aligns with MACL's broader strategy to diversify the Maldives' aviation sector. The company stated it is continuing aggressive efforts to attract more international airlines to operate services to Velana International Airport. By collaborating closely with global carriers, MACL aims to expand the destination's reach while ensuring that high service standards are maintained for all passengers entering the country.
