Foreign Minister Iruthisham Adam Demands Global Action to Protect Palestinian Rights

Foreign Minister Iruthisham Adam has called for urgent and strengthened international efforts to safeguard the rights of the Palestinian people and ensure their full independence and freedom over their land. Speaking at the Joint Arab Islamic Ministerial Meeting on Jerusalem, convened by Jordan, the Minister emphasized the necessity of enabling Palestinians to remain in their homes and determine their own future. Minister Iruthisham underscored that Jerusalem transcends international political agendas, holding a sacred place in the hearts of Muslims globally. She warned that current developments are threatening the city's future, citing the systematic destruction of Palestinian homes and the desecration of holy sites in the occupied territories. The Minister specifically highlighted repeated violations at Al-Aqsa Mosque and the ongoing expansion of illegal settlements as actions that must not be allowed to continue. Asserting that the Maldives' position on the issue remains unwavering, the Foreign Minister called for an immediate end to the crimes being committed in the occupied territories. She stated that settlement activities in Jerusalem are a direct violation of international law and established agreements, and urged the global community to collaborate in protecting the holy sites of Bayt al-Maqdis. To secure a lasting peace, Minister Iruthisham advocated for greater international recognition of the State of Palestine and urged collective diplomatic efforts to facilitate Palestine's admission as a full member of the United Nations. She further called upon Islamic nations to deepen their cooperation with global partners to halt human rights violations. During the summit, the Maldives expressed its support for the positions taken by several nations—including the United Kingdom, Canada, France, Spain, and Norway—against settlement expansion and the displacement of Palestinians. The Minister also welcomed targeted measures taken by various countries against Israeli settlers involved in such activities, calling for more decisive collective action. The Joint Arab Islamic Ministerial Meeting serves as a critical platform for coordinating joint action to preserve the historic and legal status quo of Jerusalem and its holy sites.
