Foreign Minister Iruthisham Adam Meets New Envoys From Eight Nations

Foreign Minister Iruthisham Adam has held a series of diplomatic meetings with newly appointed envoys from eight countries to strengthen bilateral ties and expand international cooperation across diverse sectors. The meetings, conducted at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, followed the envoys' presentation of their letters of credence to President Dr Mohamed Muizzu. The discussions focused on enhancing diplomatic relations and identifying mutual interests to benefit both the Maldives and the respective partner nations. In a key exchange with Qatar's new ambassador, Hamad Mohammed Abdullah Al-Sanad Al-Dosari, Minister Iruthisham reaffirmed a commitment to regional peace and stability in the Middle East. The Minister also conveyed the Maldivian government's condolences following the passing of Qatar's former Amir, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani. Diplomatic talks with other nations highlighted sector-specific goals. With Fiji and the Dominican Republic, the Maldives emphasized joint advocacy for Small Island Developing States (SIDS) in multilateral forums, focusing on tourism and economic resilience. Discussions with Cuba specifically targeted the expansion of cooperation within the healthcare sector. Further engagement with Namibia and Somalia centered on deepening ties with African nations and exchanging views on regional security. Meanwhile, meetings with representatives from Slovenia and Kosovo explored opportunities to collaborate on climate change, education, and trade. Throughout these sessions, Minister Iruthisham was supported by a senior delegation, including Foreign Secretary Dr Hala Hameed and various State Ministers. The series of meetings underscores the Maldives' active diplomatic strategy to diversify its international partnerships and address shared global challenges through dialogue and diplomacy.
