Foreign Minister Iruthisham Adam to Demand Gaza Ceasefire Implementation at OIC Meeting

Foreign Minister Iruthisham Adam will call on member states of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to enforce a ceasefire roadmap in Gaza and hold Israel accountable for violations of international law. The Minister is set to deliver these remarks during an OIC foreign ministers' meeting convened by Saudi Arabia in Jeddah. The high-level gathering will focus on Israel's ongoing actions against the Palestinian people, specifically the seizure and expansion of Palestinian territories. Minister Adam stated that the Maldives will use the platform to condemn continuous attacks and urge member states to exert collective pressure to implement the UN Security Council's peace roadmap, which the Maldives contends Israel has consistently obstructed. “In our statement, we will condemn Israel’s ongoing attacks on Palestine and call on all member states to exert pressure to implement the roadmap issued by the UN Security Council for peace in Gaza,” Minister Adam said, emphasizing that Israel has failed to give the peace plan the necessary importance. This diplomatic push aligns with the Maldives' long-standing foreign policy regarding the Palestinian conflict. The Maldivian government consistently advocates for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state based on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem recognized as its capital. Through various international forums, the Maldives has maintained a firm stance on the necessity of legal accountability for international law violations. Beyond the crisis in Gaza, the OIC meeting will address the appointment of the organization's Secretary-General. Minister Adam is also scheduled to hold a series of bilateral consultations with foreign ministers from Arab nations on the sidelines of the summit to further coordinate diplomatic efforts.
