Foreign Minister Iruthisham Adam has departed for China to participate in the 7th China-South Asia Cooperation Forum. The high-level diplomatic visit, scheduled from June 10 to June 20, 2026, will take place in Kunming, located in the Yunnan Province. During the forum, Minister Iruthisham is slated to deliver a keynote address at the Opening Ceremony, highlighting the Maldives' strategic interests and fostering regional ties. In addition to the forum, the Foreign Minister will attend the 10th China-South Asia Expo, a key platform for enhancing trade and economic collaboration between the region and China. Beyond the formal proceedings of the forum, the Minister's itinerary includes a series of high-level meetings with senior government officials of the Yunnan Province. These discussions are expected to focus on bilateral cooperation and provincial partnerships that could benefit the Maldives. Adding a community dimension to the official visit, Minister Iruthisham will also meet with Maldivian students currently pursuing their studies in Yunnan. This engagement aims to support the academic welfare of the diaspora and strengthen the ties between the youth of both nations. Accompanying the Foreign Minister on this official mission are Additional Secretary Amin Javed Faizal and Director Maryam Bassama Farooq from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The visit underscores the Maldives' commitment to strengthening its diplomatic and economic relationship with China through multilateral engagement in South Asia.
