Foreign Minister Urges Envoys to Prioritize Economic Diplomacy and 'Maldives-First' Policy

Foreign Minister Iruthisham Adam has convened a high-level meeting with Maldivian ambassadors and heads of diplomatic missions to align overseas operations with the administration's strategic roadmap. The session focused on the operationalization of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s "Maldives-First" foreign policy, positioning diplomats as the primary drivers of this national agenda. Under the "Maldives-First" framework, the government emphasizes a pragmatic approach to international relations, committing to collaborations with nations and international bodies that respect Maldivian sovereignty. Minister Iruthisham noted that the success of this policy relies on the ability of envoys to translate high-level strategic goals into tangible diplomatic outcomes on the ground. Economic diplomacy emerged as a central theme of the discussions. The Foreign Minister urged diplomats to shift their focus toward the aggressive marketing of Maldivian tourism and the promotion of investment opportunities.
