Foreign national arrested for sexual assault of young woman in Male changing room

Police have arrested a foreign national on suspicion of sexually assaulting a 19-year-old woman in a changing room in Male. According to a post circulating on social media, the woman had gone to a changing facility with a foreign man, who allegedly took her into the changing room to remove her clothes and assaulted her. Police confirmed the arrest but did not disclose the suspect's nationality. The case is under investigation. The arrest follows a recent incident in a southern island where nine people were arrested in connection with a sexual assault case involving a woman and children; five of those detained have had their detention extended. Police statistics show that 272 sexual crimes were reported last year, and 228 such cases have been reported so far this year.
