Foreigner who damaged glass panel at Velana Airport gets 15 days in prison

A 21-year-old Bangladeshi national has been sentenced to 15 days in prison by the Criminal Court for damaging a glass panel at Velana International Airport (VIA). The incident occurred at the immigration holding cell in the arrival hall of the new terminal. Police said the man was arrested on suspicion of causing damage to property. The court order stated that there was sufficient evidence, including an incident report from police and an incident report from Maldives Immigration. The 15-day detention began on October 25, 2026, and will end on November 8, 2026.
