Politics ·
Former Chief Justice Dr. Ahmed Abdullah Didi has stated that if the People's Majlis fails to fulfill its constitutional duty to impeach President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, the matter should be addressed using the power of the people under Article 4 of the Constitution. In a post on X, Dr. Ahmed Abdullah Didi noted that the concept of a vote of no confidence is not recognized under the Constitution, but removal from office or impeachment under Article 100 is the proper procedure. He accused the President of misusing powers in violation of the Constitution and criticized the Majlis for shirking its constitutional responsibility. Article 4 of the Constitution declares that all powers of the Maldivian state originate from and remain with the people, making them the true rulers of the state's sovereignty.
