Former Deputy Minister warns home schooling amendment could leave many children behind
Education ·
Former Deputy Minister of Education Mohamed Ihsaan has raised concerns over a proposed amendment to the Education Law that would introduce home schooling, arguing it could leave many children behind in the education system and hinder their social development.
Speaking on the "Falath Suruhii" programme on Raajje TV, Ihsaan said the biggest concern in the government-proposed amendment is the introduction of home schooling. He stressed that children need to learn how to cope with frustration, resolve conflicts with peers, and control their anger—skills best developed in a school environment.
"Sending children to school and involving them in the community is something that must always be done," Ihsaan said.
While acknowledging that arrangements already exist under current law to provide home education for children with disabilities who cannot move independently, Ihsaan said he believes there are "hidden purposes" behind the new amendment and that he has significant concerns about these matters.
