Former Deputy Speaker Nazim warns of dangers to MPs from orchestrated animosity

Politics ·
Former Deputy Speaker of the People's Majlis Ahmad Nazim has warned that some individuals are deliberately spreading hostile narratives against Members of Parliament, putting their safety at serious risk. Speaking during a parliamentary debate on an E-Petition seeking to abolish the costly health insurance scheme for MPs, Nazim argued that such animosity endangers lawmakers. He cited the killing of religious scholar and former MP Dr. Afrasheem Ali as a direct consequence of such hostility, and also referred to a recent incident in Australia where a car was intentionally driven into a sitting MP. Nazim defended the health insurance benefits, stating that privileges for MPs are established under Article 102 of the Constitution, which also covers the President, Ministers, Judges, and members of independent institutions.
