Former Fenaka procurement head Dheena found guilty, remanded until sentencing

Health ·
The Criminal Court has found Mariyam Dheena, former Procurement Head of Fenaka Corporation, guilty of corruption-related charges and ordered that she be remanded in custody until sentencing. The verdict was delivered in a hearing held yesterday. The state charged Dheena in connection with an agreement signed in 2019 between Fenaka and Blazean Ink. According to the charge, money was released to Blazean Ink before the company completed its work and without confirming that the work had been completed. The judge hearing the case ruled that the charge of misuse of official position was proven based on evidence submitted by the state. After the guilty verdict, the state requested that Dheena be kept in custody until sentencing, and the judge decided to remand her until the sentence is delivered. Following the decision, Dheena cried for a long time in court. The basic penalty for this offence is one year, seven months and six days in prison. In the same case, former Fenaka Managing Director Mohamed Saeed was sentenced to four years in prison about a year ago. The court had also sought to sentence Dheena alongside Saeed, but she was admitted to hospital at the time and the sentencing did not proceed. Later, she submitted documents related to her health condition stating that she could not appear in court. Another trial against Dheena is also ongoing at the Criminal Court. That case concerns the awarding of a contract in June 2018 to Keiretsu Private Limited to install a camera system, a head office command centre and a video conferencing system in all Fenaka branches, allegedly in a manner that facilitated corruption.
