Former Home Minister Sheikh Imran Abdullah has called for a referendum on the Rasmaale land issue and announced that a major rally will be held on November 6 to demonstrate public support for the move. Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, Imran said the rally is part of a campaign to demand a binding vote on the controversial decision to permanently allocate a large portion of the Rasmaale reclamation project to the foreign company Eagle Hills. He stressed that the fight is about protecting the nation's independence and sovereignty, and urged all citizens, including women, youth, and members of the defence forces, to join the rally. Imran also warned against foreign interference, alleging that external powers often try to control countries by bribing political leaders and influential groups. He expressed confidence that the referendum campaign would succeed with the support of the people from Male' and the atolls. The rally is scheduled for November 6.
