Former MP Ali Hussain Urges Parliament, Supreme Court and Security Forces to Block Rasmalé Land Deal

Lawyer and former MP for Kendhoo constituency Ali Hussain has called on three key institutions to intervene in the Rasmalé project, under which a foreign company is reportedly being granted permanent land. Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, Ali Hussain expressed deep concern over the deal and urged the People’s Majlis to exercise its constitutional power to impeach the President, the Supreme Court to ensure intergenerational justice, and the security forces to remind President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu that Maldivian citizens are the rightful owners of the land. He also demanded that the government be held accountable and called for a popular vote—visible or invisible—on the issue. Ali Hussain stressed that no one, including the President, has the right to sell the land without the consent of the people.
