President Maumoon said that the proud Victory Day of the Maldives is a day when the patriotism and national sentiments of Maldivian citizens rise and flourish. Furthermore, he said it is a day where the courage and standards of Maldivians are displayed in the most complete manner. In the post conveying sincere good wishes for Victory Day to Maldivians, President Maumoon prayed for the continued prosperity of the Maldives as a fully free Muslim nation. Victory Day is celebrated in the Maldives to commemorate the courageous jihad performed by Maldivian soldiers in defense of the country's freedom and independence against the dangerous mercenary attack faced by the Maldives on November 3, 1988, and the victory achieved for the country. In this mercenary attack, 19 Maldivians, including 8 soldiers and 11 civilians, were martyred.
