Former President Solih Calls for Halt to Rasmalé Project, Says Land Given Free to Eagle Hills
Politics ·
Former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has called on the government to immediately halt the Rasmalé project, stating that providing 500 hectares of land to Eagle Hills company for free yields no financial benefit to the state. In a post on X, Solih noted that the land, being reclaimed with over 700 million dollars of citizens' money, is being given entirely for free to Eagle Hills, with no balance of benefit in the transaction. Solih also revealed that the 5,000 housing units Eagle Hills claims it will build on the land are items the Maldivian government would have to purchase at cost, meaning only the company benefits. He warned that if the project proceeds in its current design, the entire nation will face major challenges in the future, and urged the government to stop it in the interest of the Maldivian state.
