Aminath Shiruna, previously the Minister of State for Health, has been appointed as the Chief Executive Officer of the National Social Protection Agency (NSPA). The appointment brings a seasoned healthcare professional to the helm of the agency responsible for managing the nation's social safety nets.
Shiruna enters the role with over 23 years of experience in the nursing profession and holds a Master’s degree in her field. Her extensive background in clinical practice and healthcare administration is expected to provide critical leadership for the agency's operational goals.
During her tenure at the Ministry of Health, Shiruna held significant oversight responsibilities. She managed the operations of several key healthcare institutions, including the Health Protection Agency (HPA), Maldives Blood Services, and Dhamanaveshi, the state's primary health insurance scheme. This experience in managing large-scale public health initiatives positions her to effectively navigate the complexities of social protection.
The Ministry of Health has officially extended its congratulations to Shiruna following her appointment. The transition comes at a pivotal time for the NSPA as it seeks to maintain stability in its leadership.
This leadership change follows the departure of the previous Chief Executive Officer, Heena Waleed, who recently stepped down from the position. Shiruna's appointment is intended to ensure a seamless transition and the continued delivery of essential social services to the Maldivian public.
