Former Vice President Faisal Naseem and Malé City Mayor Adham Azim have called for the government to disclose complete information to Maldivian citizens regarding the 'Maldives Waterfront and Marina' project being planned by Eagle Hills in Malé.
In a joint press release, Faisal and Azim expressed concern that the government is not revealing all aspects of the project transparently, instead acting as if there is a hidden secret agenda. The statement noted that there is significant unease among citizens about the government's efforts to withhold information and to obstruct opposition parties and independent journalists from clarifying the matter.
The press release warned that the cooperation of the government-controlled People's Majlis in facilitating this approach reveals the seriousness of the danger. It stated that this situation risks endangering the religious diversity and social harmony of the Maldives, a 100 percent Muslim nation.
Faisal and Azim also highlighted widespread dissatisfaction among citizens over the government's handling of the project, warning that proceeding in this manner is likely to result in huge, irreversible financial and social losses for Maldivians. The statement further noted an imminent threat to the religion, long-standing freedom, and independence of the Maldivian people.
They declared that proceeding with such a dangerous project against the will of the citizens is objectionable.
