Four individuals have been arrested and remanded for 30 days by the Criminal Court in connection with an incident where a police officer was seriously injured after being hit by a motorcycle on the Sinamale Bridge highway. The incident occurred while the officer was conducting a vehicle checkpoint on the highway from Male to Hulhumale. A motorcycle travelling at a speed exceeding 100 kilometres per hour struck the officer, causing severe injuries including a fractured jaw and the loss of teeth. The four arrested are Abdulla Sammah Hassan Sadik of Kulhudhuffushi, Ahmed Maish Muhammad Mahir of Hithadhoo, Anoof bin Muhammad of Male, and Ahmed Sinaz of Gafaru. They were ordered to be held for 30 days by the Criminal Court. Commissioner of Police Ahmed Mohamed, known as Toof, issued a statement saying the act appeared to be a deliberate attempt to obstruct police operations and instil fear. He said the attack would not deter the police, and the special operation against reckless driving would continue without interruption. He also stated that the strongest legal action would be taken against those who compromise public safety and create fear among the public.
