Four senior police commanders have been appointed to lead security operations for the upcoming local council elections scheduled for April 4. The commanders were formally presented with their appointment certificates by Commissioner of Police Ismail Naveen during a meeting at Police Headquarters. The meeting also included discussions on election-day security, operational coordination, and ensuring a safe environment for voters. The appointed officers are Assistant Commissioner – Overall Commander, Chief Superintendent Hussain Sameer – Deputy Commander, Chief Superintendent Ahmed Athif – Chief Technology Officer, and Superintendent Abdul Matheen Abdul Kareem – Tactical Commander. Police noted that operation commanders are appointed for every major election to oversee security planning and deployment across the country. Political parties have already begun preparations for the polls. The ruling PNC held its primaries on December 27, while the opposition MDP is scheduled to hold its primaries on January 16. Meanwhile, the Elections Commission launched a training program last weekend for trainers who will prepare election officials ahead of the vote.
