Friday Sermon Urges Faithful to Cherish Health and Time as Divine Trusts
Local News ·
The Friday khutbah delivered across mosques in the Maldives today urged worshippers to make good use of the precious blessings bestowed by Allah Almighty, including good health and leisure time.
The khutbah was specifically dedicated to the theme "Taking Care of Health." According to the sermon, good health is a valuable blessing connected to the numerous continuous processes that operate without any choice or interruption within the human body. It noted that the value of this blessing becomes apparent when one notices a problem or deficiency in it, stating that the human soul is a noble trust entrusted by Allah Almighty. Deliberately harming the body, exposing the soul to dangers, and neglecting health by abandoning necessary medical care are not permitted in Islam, the khutbah stated.
Reminding that the strength and youth possessed today will not last forever, the khutbah pointed out that there will come a day when physical strength weakens and assistance from others is required. While safeguarding health is a responsibility incumbent upon humans, holy Quranic verses have provided evidence that humans do not possess the power to halt aging and illness.
The khutbah highlighted the characteristics a believer should exhibit when facing illnesses and misfortunes, stating that faith does not mean feeling no pain. Citing a hadith that describes a believer as being like a green plant that bends with the wind and straightens up again, it said that maintaining an unbroken connection with Allah Almighty even in difficult circumstances is the true strength of a believer.
Emphasizing that the sole purpose of taking care of health is not merely to stay away from diseases, the khutbah described health as an opportunity granted by Allah Almighty for servitude and performing good deeds. Praying in congregation, walking to the mosque, showing consideration to parents, visiting the sick, and working to earn lawful sustenance are all valuable opportunities that will be lost tomorrow.
The khutbah advised paying attention to two blessings often neglected: health and leisure time. It reminded people to reflect on whether they have made good use of their health, time, and physical strength given as trusts, urging individuals to question themselves before standing before Allah Almighty tomorrow regarding how they utilized these trusts.
