Former Vice President Faisal Naseem has received a significant boost in his campaign for the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) presidential primary, with Fuvahmulah City Mayor Ismail Rafeeq and seven councilors publicly endorsing him. The endorsement was announced during a meeting of Fuvahmulah City campaign coordinators held at Hulhumale' Central on Saturday night. Mayor Ismail Rafeeq expressed his delight at Faisal's candidacy, citing the work done by Faisal and Adam Azim during the previous MDP government as a reason to trust them. Faisal Naseem officially announced his candidacy for the 2028 presidential election primary on October 8 on RaajjeTV's program 'Fashaairu'. He stated that he has the full support of former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, who he praised for his services to the people. Faisal said he is running with a strong team to address the country's major concerns and noted that having energetic Adam Azim by his side is a great encouragement. Faisal is the fourth candidate to declare for the MDP presidential primary, joining former Party Chairperson Fayyaz Ismail, former Party President Abdulla Shahid, and Parliament Member Dr. Ahmed Shamheed.
