Fuvahmulah Water Supply Stabilizes After Earlier Disruptions, Says City Council

Local News ·
The Fuvahmulah City Council has confirmed that there have been no new complaints regarding the quality of the city’s water supply following a disruption earlier this month. On November 10, over 11,000 residents were left without water for three days due to contamination and leaks, according to Fenaka Corporation, the state utility service. After disinfecting pipelines and storage tanks, water services resumed on November 13. Despite assurances from the Maldives Food and Drug Authority (MFDA) that the water meets World Health Organization standards, residents continue to report discolored tap water with a foul odor. Councilman Abdulla Nasir Ahmed noted one recent complaint about high chlorine levels but emphasized that no new issues have emerged. The council attributed the earlier problems to unresolved warnings in a 2023 audit report, which highlighted bacterial contamination in the groundwater. Fenaka has waived water bills for Fuvahmulah residents for November.
